Chapel of the Holy Cross

Sunday, September 28, 2014

My faith........It is who I am.......
I am not a preacher......I just try and be an example.......

I have attended church all my life....beginning in a small Church of the Brethren in Silver Lake, Indiana.
I was dedicated as a child, and baptized by trine immersion at the age of 13.  This all happened because of my parents setting that example.  I cannot imagine "me" without that major part of my life.

Hebrews 11 - "Faith is confidence in what we hope for, and, the assurance of what we do not see."

Grateful for prayer with faith.......
I believe that you should pray as if it is the air you breathe.......prayer is what makes faith stronger.

The Inspiration of The Chapel of the Holy Cross - Sedona, Arizona

"Though Catholic in faith, as a work of art the chapel has a universal appeal.  It's doors will ever be open to one and all, regardless of creed.  That the church may come to life in the souls of men and be a living reality........herein lies the whole message of this chapel......"
Marguerite Bruning Staude - author of the Chapel. -  Artist and Sculptor

The View driving up to the Chapel.....giving you the impression that it was carved into the mountain.
You drive through a residential area to reach the Chapel.  That is a house, guessing it is "unrelated" to the chapel.

Once the car is parked, you walk up a slightly steep ramp around the mountain rock.  The chapel is in the background.

This is a straight shot view of a "wall" of red rock on our walk to the Chapel of the Holy Cross.
The wall of rock goes up and up and up.  It is hard to explain the dimensions and vastness of this area.

The following picture shot of what was straight up from the wall of rock.
The Chapel of the Holy Cross is below the spire.

Peace To All Who Enter

The Dais

The Holy Cross

Hundreds of Red Candles........flickering on opposite walls.......very spiritual as you enter the sanctuary.

The opposite wall
As we left the chapel, there was an anointing bowl.......
We each anointed ourselves:  In the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.  Amen

An Open Heart Rosary
Notice when I snapped this picture that the light reflection highlighted a heart.

Description

"Marguerite Brunswig Staude, a former student of Frank Lloyd Wright, designed the Chapel of the Holy Cross, earning the Award of Honor by the American Institute of Architects for her work. Constructed in 1956, the church rises 200 feet over Sedona in the Coconino National Forest. It took 18 months to construct the impressive structure, not to mention approximately $300,000. Today, it’s one of the top attractions in Sedona for those seeking tranquility and reflection."

Blessed Sunday
Amen
