Headwaters of the Sacramento River

Reaching in to fill a water bottle with fresh water coming from the earth....nice and cold!

The Sacramento's source waters rise in the volcanic plateaus and ranges of far northern California as two streams – the Upper Sacramento and Pit. The main stem rises in the shadow of Mount Shasta and flows south through the Klamath Mountains.

Castle Lake

Castle Lake is a glacial lake (cirque lake or tarn) located in northernCalifornia along the eastern edge of the Klamath Mountains, in Siskiyou County, near the city of Mount Shasta. The outlet of the lake drains into Castle Lake Creek, and then into Lake Siskiyou; the lake is part of the headwaters of the Sacramento River.  (Refer to Wikipedia)

We walked across, the Wagon Creek "Walking" Bridge.
We could see the bridge from our Chalet at the Mt. Shasta Resort

We leave first thing in the morning, traveling south toward San Diego.  My sister is traveling with us, so, that we can have that extra time together.
I / We are so grateful for this time in Mt. Shasta.  A nice little town with such a close proximity to trails, mountains, lakes, streams and rivers, biking, fishing, hiking, camping.......
Thank You to our family for an absolutely best time!!!

Mt. Shasta, California - Day 3

We woke up to a much needed rain in California.  We all had big plans to spend much of the time outdoors.....playing golf, taking a walk, doing a little shopping, but, we had to save it for the afternoon and evening.  The Grandmas and Grandpas (there are two pair) watched our little guy.  (Phil and I are actually a great aunt and uncle.) while the girls did their yoga.  We had a late brunch of scrambled eggs with red pepper and onion, cold salmon and bacon, cinnamon raisin toast and fruit.  It was delicious!
The sun came out and the fellas played golf.....and, either we entertained the baby or the baby entertained us....

Today's Scenes.......

I love the color green!

And blue......

Different pine needles that have been blown into a different needled pine....they were hanging there like someone had placed them individually.

Sun through the tall pines

A lovely, lazy afternoon

My favorite little pine in the late afternoon sun

We started off the day with a family bash breakfast........then
We ended the day with a family bash dinner......

"Lenticular Clouds over Mt. Shasta.         Mt. Shasta's Elevation is 14,179 feet!
Lenticular clouds, technically known as altocumulus standing lenticularis, are stationary lens-shaped clouds that form at high altitudes, normally aligned at right-angles to the wind direction.
Where stable moist air flows over a mountain or a range of mountains, a series of large-scale standing waves may form on the downwind side. Lenticular clouds sometimes form at the crests of these waves. Under certain conditions, long strings of lenticular clouds can form, creating a formation known as a wave cloud."
( Information from crystalinks.com/lenticular.html )
To view more pictures of lenticular clouds, search google images under " lenticular clouds".     Absolutely Fascinating!

A Stellar Jay -  relative to the Blue Jay, is located in the western area of the United States.  It has a black head and upper body but, it's remaining body is vivid blue.  They were being fed peanuts from the back deck.

The scenery from the back deck..... Our niece decided to go swimming in Lake Siskiyou,
She swam about a half mile across and then back......she loves to swim!
The white speck in the lake is  our swimmer!

What a peaceful view!

We all went "downtown" to the village of Mt.Shasta.  We checked out the shops and art galleries.
